Wade Hampton Hayes (c1879-1956) of Edmundsons Electric Co

1956 Died. 'Brig.-General Wade Hampton Hayes, who died yesterday at Chappaqua, New York State, after a sudden illness while on visit from London to his family in the United States, was director of the English Electric Co. Ltd., D. Napier and Son. Ltd., Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Co. Ltd., and associated companies. He was 77. Born in the United States. Brig.-General Haves was Sunday editor of the New York Tribune from 1908 until 1914. In 1926 he came Tendon and later joined the Edmundson group of electric companies which had become the property of a Chicago operator. In 15 years, until the companies were nationalised 1948 he built them into one of the largest and strongest groups in the Industry and restored British control. After nationalisation he joined English Electric as a director of the company and of many of its subsidiaries. As a young man Brig.-General Hayes served in Spanish American War. In World War I he commanded the 107th U.S. Infantry Battalion World War II he raised and commanded the American section of the United Home Guard.'[1]
