1964 The board accepted an offer from British Paints but Dufay were also reported to have made an offer[1]. June: Dufay made a higher bid in conjunction with John James Group[2]. By August both bids had lapsed or been withdrawn.

1965 Agreed merger with Dufay into a new company Dufay Bitumastic[4]. Terms later revised[5]. British Paints and the National Coal Board made a counter-offer[6]. Dufay finally succeeded; they announced plans for expansion including a new factory[7]
