1949 Obituary [1]

"WALTER HAROLD GODDARD, who was born in 1897, served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Ransomes, Sims and Jefferies, Ltd., of Ipswich, from 1914 to 1918, in whose employment he continued as assistant to the shop superintendent with the charge of the planning and rate fixing departments for a further two years. He then went to India to take up an appointment in Northern Bengal as engineer to the Nedeem Tea Company, Ltd., in which capacity he was responsible for the layout and erection of a hydro-electric scheme. He relinquished this post in 1924 and began a connection with Messrs. Trinidad Leaseholds, Ltd., which was only terminated by his death in London on 10th November 1948. During this long period he was, for the most part, employed as a field engineer in Trinidad, where he was responsible for the installation and operation of a narrow gauge railway and also for the installations at new power stations. He also acted as field superintendent and as divisional engineer for brief periods. Mr. Goddard had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1934."
