1882 The blending and bottling company began by whisky merchants James Whyte and Charles Mackay.
Whyte and Mackay Special Reserve was their first blended whisky and it was successful in the United Kingdom and other English speaking countries around the world.
After World War II they focused on the home market.

1960 Dalmore merged with Whyte & Mackay Ltd. to form a new, publicly listed company, Dalmore, Whyte & Mackay Ltd. As well as being a major customer of Dalmore, the Whyte and Mackenzie families had been friends for years and this merger gave Whyte & Mackay ownership of a distillery for the first time.
1972 Dalmore, Whyte & Mackay was purchased by Scottish Universal Investment Trust.
c1985 Acquired by Lonrho,
1988 Acquired by Brent Walker
1990 Whyte and Mackay, including Claymore Whisky and Haig Whisky, was sold to American Brands (later called Fortune Brands).[1]
2007 In May Whyte and Mackay was acquired by the United Breweries Group of India.
2008 The group owns five malt distilleries, a grain distillery and bottling and packaging facilities in Scotland, selling nine million cases a year.
The company's brands include Whyte and Mackay Blended Scotch Whiskies', Dalmore Single Malt, Isle of Jura Single Malt, Fettercairn Single Malt, Glayva Scotch Liqueur, and Vladivar Vodka.
