WILLIAM ALLOTT died at Chapeltown, Sheffield, on May 18, 1912, aged sixty years. He was managing director of Newton Chambers and Company, Limited, of Thorncliffe. Born in 1852, he received his education at Barrow, Wentworth.
He started his business career in the collieries, and was afterwards promoted to a post in the office of the Company. Upon the death of Mr. Chambers, the directorate showed their confidence in him by entrusting him with the full management of the whole of the Thorncliffe mining properties, and later elected him to a seat on the board, and eventually managing director.
He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1905.
