William Crighton

1825 Listed as a machine maker, of W. and J. Crighton. House: 52 Great Bridgewater Street[1]. Note: William Glasgow, ironfounder, lived next door at No. 54.

1839 'On the 25th. ult., at his residence, Trafford Place, aged 69 years, Mr. William Crighton, of the firm William and John Crighton, machine-makers, of this town.'[2]

1895 'The Late Mr William Crighton.— The death is announced of Mr. William Crighton, one of the oldest engineers in Manchester, and head of the firm of Crighton and Sons, cotton machinery manufacturers, of Castlefield Ironworks, Knott Mill. Mr. Crighton was in his 81st year, and was the author of several patents for cotton machinery, but seems to have taken little part in public affairs.' [3]. Note: This was evidently William Crighton Junior.
