WILLIAM LINDSEY-BADCOCK was born at Saffron Walden, Essex, on 2nd May 1871, and received his scholastic education at Tavistock and Plymouth, where he attended technical classes.

In January, 1888 he began an apprenticeship of five years with Messrs. Willoughby Brothers, engineers and shipbuilders, Plymouth, and on its completion he served as a fitter for one year in the marine engine works of Messrs. Blair and Co., Stockton-on-Tees.

After experience with various firms, he joined the Chief Engineers' staff of the Great Western Railway at Paddington in 1899.

In 1913 he was appointed General Superintendent and Engineer of the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway, and held this position until his death, which took place at Stowmarket on 16th September 1923, at the age of fifty-two.

He was elected an Associate Member of this Institution in 1902.
