Born at Ashby-de-la-Zouch the son of Joseph Mason, a Potter

1851 Residing at Hartshorne, Ashby-de-la-Zouch: Joseph Mason (age 38 born Findern), a Potter Slip Maker. With his wife Sarah (age 35) and children Eliza; John Mason (age 15); George Mason (age 13); William Mason (age 10 born Ashby); and Ann.[1]

1861 Residing at Hartshorne, Swadlincote: Joseph Mason (age 48 born Findern), a Potter. With his wife Sarah and children William Mason (age 20 born Ashby), a Potter; John Mason (age 16 born Midway), a Potter; Ann Mason; and Elizabeth Mason.[2]

1863 Marriage (1) at Birstall to Caroline Hall. William is of Medway, Swadlincote and a Potter

1873 Marriage (2) at Swadlincote to Charlotte Staley the daughter of James Staley, a Potter. William is a Potter and Widower.

1881 Residing at Shop, Lansdowne Terrace, Hastings Road, Church Gresley: William Mason (age 39 born Ashby), Earthenware Manufacturer employing 27 hands. With his wife Charlotte (age 35 born Swadlincote).[3]

1891 Residing at Midway Road, Swadlincote: William Mason (age 50 born Ashby-de-la-Zouch), Earthenware manufacturer (and employer). With his wife Charlotte age 45 born Swadlincote). (Living close by is John Staley for possible family connection)[4]

1896 March 17th. Died, of Swadlincote. Earthenware manufacturer Probate to Charlotte Mason, widow.

1934 April 26th. Death of Charlotte Ellen Maria Mason, age 88, the widow of Mr. William Mason, who formerly owned the pottery works of Messrs. Mason, Cash and Co., Church Gresley.[5]
