Educated at Middlesbrough Grammar School, Hugh Bell School, and Middlesbrough High School.

1897-1906 Apprenticeship in Drawing Office and Workshops of the Tees Side Bridge and Engineering Works, Ltd., Middlesbrough; Leading Draughtsman with Tees Side Bridge and Engineering Works, Ltd., Middlesbrough.

Married Edith M. Appleton

1906-14 Designing Engineer with Dorman, Long and Co., Ltd., Middlesbrough.

1914-6 In charge of Dorman, Long and Co's., Ltd., Constructional Branch in London.

War Services: In charge of supply of factory buildings, bridges, etc., erected to increase the country's productions. Design and erection of steel building in connection with the Steel Works and Rolling Mills at Warrenby, for Dorman, Long and Co., Ltd.

1916-9 Manager to Dorman, Long and Co.'s, Ltd., Constructional Department, Middlesbrough, during which period also acted as Assistant Director of Supplies to Lord Pirrie's Department of the Admiralty.

1919— General Manager, Braithwaite and Co., West Bromwich. Contractors for all kinds of Structures. Chief Works: Engaged on important bridge and building contracts involving design, manufacture and erection; such as steel works and rolling mills, blast furnaces, workshop buildings, Khusagn Bridge, Regent Palace Hotel, London County Hall and various steel frame buildings.
