1830 Company founded by Richard Evans (1778-1864); his daughter, Ann, married Richard Pilkington of the St. Helens family.

1873 Josiah died; Joseph Evans became the sole owner and worked the pits
1879 Company formed; output of 1,000,000 tons from seven pits, which employ 5,900 men.
