FREDERICK CHARLES HASTE was born at Heaton, near Bradford, on 16th May 1874.
His education was received at the Bradford Higher Board School, the Bradford Grammar School, and at the engineering department of the Bradford Technical College.
He served an apprenticeship from 1889 to 1894 at the works of Messrs. Thornton and Crebbin, of Bradford, and on its completion he entered the Royal Navy as assistant engineer. During the Chinese and Japanese war he served on the China Squadron.
In 1898 he retired from the Navy, and joined the Edwards Air-Pump Co., with which firm he remained until 1903, when he invented a pump and brought out the Haste Pump Co., of which he was a partner and managing director, with works at Manchester.
His death from consumption took place at Bradford on 30th May 1908, at the age of thirty-four.
He became on Associate Member of this Institution in 1902, and was transferred to full Membership in 1905.
