"EDWARD ALBERT JARMAIN began his professional career in 1880 as an apprentice in the engineering works of [[Ransomes, Sims and Jefferies|Ransomes, Sims and Jefferies, Ltd.]], Ipswich, and on the conclusion of his training remained with that firm as a charge hand until 1898. He then took charge of the fitting and erecting department for [[Davey, Paxman and Co|Davey, Paxman and Company, Ltd.]], Colchester, and two years later became departmental manager for [[Richard Garrett and Sons|Garrett and Sons, Ltd.]], Leiston, Suffolk. In 1903 he took up an appointment at Leeds as general manager to the [[Yorkshire Commercial Motor Co]], leaving in 1912 to join the staff of [[Bumsted and Chandler|Bumsted and Chandler, Ltd.]], Hednesford Works, Staffs, as works manager and technical adviser. After five years of service in this capacity he transferred to London where he was in charge of the office of [[Peter Brotherhood|Peter Brotherhood, Ltd.]], Peterborough, for five years.
