ARTHUR HACKETT, whose death occurred on 19th January 1945, in his sixty-seventh year, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1924, and was transferred to Membership in 1925. After gaining experience in the drawing office of Messrs. T. Walker and Sons, and of Messrs. W. and T. Avery, of Birmingham, he began, in 1900, his long association with Messrs. Cadbury Brothers, at Bourneville, which lasted for nearly forty years, his first position being that of draughtsman and assistant engineer.
In 1912 he was appointed technical adviser, in which capacity he was responsible for much layout work in connection with the organization and working of multi-storey buildings on labour saving lines. He was further responsible for the erection and starting-up of a factory of large dimensions in Tasmania on behalf of Messrs. Cadbury, Fry, Pascall, Ltd. Mr. Hackett's retirement took place in June 1939.
