1840 The brothers M'Onie formed a business, P. and W. McOnie. The name M'Onie (McOnie) went on to become closely associated with engineering in Glasgow.
1848 The partnership was dissolved - William and Andrew McOnie formed W. and A. McOnie; Peter McOnie joined with James Buchanan Mirrlees, forming McOnie and Mirrlees.
1850 Mr. Peter M'Onie died; Mr Mirrlees appointed William Tait as manager
1852 Mr Tait became a partner, the title of the firm remaining the same.
1858 When William Tait became a partner in McOnie and Mirrlees, the name of the firm was changed to Mirrlees and Tait.
