1899 Disastrous boiler explosion on 6 January at the ship repair yard, by which ten persons lost their lives, and a number of others were injured, some very seriously. It was the subject of a formal investigation by the Board of Trade under the Boiler Explosions Act, 1882. The proceedings were described at length in Engineering.[1]
