ROBERT LEA WALKER was born at Wigan on 18th March 1873, and received the earlier part of his education in Southport.
In 1887 he went to Edinburgh, where, after two years spent at the Edinburgh Institution, he passed through a two-years' course of engineering at the Heriot-Watt College, Edinburgh, and the Walker Engineering Laboratory, Liverpool.
He next began, in 1891, a five years' apprenticeship with Messrs. Walker Brothers, Pagefield Iron Works, Wigan, and on its termination he remained with the firm. Latterly he took some share in the general management of the works, though for the greater part of the time he acted as the firm's representative in the North of England district.
His death took place from pneumonia at Newcastle-on-Tyne on 5th September 1907, in his thirty-fifth year.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1905.
