1902 February 8th. In poor weather and thick mud a series of hill tests for cars took place at Persham Hill, Richmond from the Dysart Arms to the Star and Garter Hotel, a distance of 600 yards. The average gradient was 1 in 15.1 and the steepest was 1 in 9.5.

- S. F. Edge in a 16 hp Napier. 16.8 mph.
- Charles Jarrott in a 16 hp Panhard. 14.4 mph and 15.5 mph.
