Motoring Annual and Motorist’s Year Book 1903

1902 February 8th. In poor weather and thick mud a series of hill tests for cars took place at Persham Hill, Richmond from the Dysart Arms to the Star and Garter Hotel, a distance of 600 yards. The average gradient was 1 in 15.1 and the steepest was 1 in 9.5.

After lunch the test used were on Test Hill between Robin Hood and Kingston Gates in Richmond Park. The distance was 880 yards, the average gradient 1 in 11.3 and the steepest part was 1 in 7.8. The ascent included a bend.
