On the island of Djurgården, Stockholm
Skansen is the world’s oldest open-air museum, showcasing the whole of Sweden with houses and farmsteads from every part of the country. The 75 acre site includes craft workshops and a zoo.
It was opened in 1891 by Artur Hazelius to show the way of life in the different parts of Sweden. Hazelius also founded the nearby Nordic Museum
Skansen is close to the Vasa Museum, but it would be unwise to attempt to visit them both on the same day!
