1870 Fred Birchall, born in Stalybridge, Lancs, son of James Birchall, a mechanic, and his wife Elizabeth[1]
The family moved to Yorkshire
c.1883 Fred started work aged 13 at the Hexthorpe Brass and Iron works in Doncaster where he gained experience as a brass founder.
1891 Living in Balby with Hexthorpe, a clerk, with his mother Elizabeth 46, Martha 18, June 13, Andrew 11, Lirrie 8[2]
He rose through the ranks to become Manager.
1895 Married Rachel Monkman in Yorkshire[3]
Fred went to work for brass founders Mackay/Mckay in Glasgow.
c.1899 Met Frank Pegler who agreed to put up the money for Fred to start a new operation to supply Pegler's merchandising company. This became Pegler Brothers and Co Ltd
1901 Manager of a brass works, living in Wheatley, Yorks, with Rachel 28, Winifred 4, Eleanor 10 months[4]
1911 Manager of brass works, makers of engineers and plumbers brass cocks, valves and fittings; living in Wheatley, Doncaster with Rachel 38, Winifred Doris 14, Eleanor 10, Fred Leslie 6[5]
1947 Retired from Peglers
