Eng-Lieut James Arthur Reynolds (1855-1928)

Engineer-Lieut. J. A. REYNOLDS, R.N. (ret.) was born in 1855, and educated in Glasgow.
He served his time with Messrs. Todd and McGregor and Messrs. D. and W. Henderson, and afterwards gained experience at sea on the s.s. "City of Mecca " and the s.s. "City of Richmond."
In 1878 he entered the Royal Navy by examination as a temporary assistant engineer and was promoted by examination to the ranks of temporary engineer and Engineer-Lieutenant in 1887.
Prior to his retirement in 1905 he acted as engineer overseer inspecting machinery and boilers for naval vessels under construction at Jarrow and Birkenhead.
He afterwards accepted the position of superintending engineer of the East Anglian Ice and Cold Storage Company of Lowestoft.
At the commencement of the War he was reappointed by the Admiralty to H.M.S. "President," and in 1915 became assistant engineer overseer in the Birmingham district, taking up his duties at the Handyside Machinery Depot at Derby.
He became a Member of the Institution in 1906 and his death occurred on 26th April 1928, in his seventy-third year.
