WE regret to have to record the death, on May 13th, of Mr. Edward Cockburn Greig, who, until his retirement early in March, occupied the position of chief labour superintendent of the United Steel Companies, Ltd.
Mr. Greig was born on December 12th, 1877, was educated in Glasgow, and in May, 1898, was brought from Wishaw by the late Mr. James Henderson to be chief chemist of the Frodingham Iron and Steel Company.
In 1907 he was appointed mill manager at Frodingham, later becoming steelworks manager.
About this time be began to take a keen interest in labour problems, both locally and nationally, and in March, 1922, he went to the then head office of the United Steel Companies (Steel, Peech and Tozer, Ltd.), Sheffield, to serve as labour manager.
In January, 1925, he was appointed works manager of Steel, Peech and Tozer, Ltd., and in 1929 he became chief labour superintendent of the United Steel Companies.
