1890 Born in Newcastle upon Tyne son of Hugh Lee Pattinson (1854-1924)
WWI Commissioned in the Durham Light Infrantry
Joined the Royal Fusiliers
1915 Transferred to RFC
1915 Gained Aviator's Certificate at the Military School, Harrow
Led large scale daylight bombing raids in the closing stages of the war[1]
By the end of the war he was in the RAF, rank acting Lieutenant Colonel
1919 Permanent commission as a squadron leader
1930-4 Director-level position in the Air Ministry
1933-4 Air A.D.C. to the King
1940 Appointed A.O. C.in C. Training in the RAF
1941 Retired as Air Marshal
Knighted
1942 Recalled to the active list and placed in charge of training mission to the Chinese Air Force
1955 of Cumberland; died in Wendover[2]
