1840 The brothers M'Onie formed a business, P. and W. McOnie. The name M'Onie (McOnie) went on to become closely associated with engineering in Glasgow.
1848 The partnership was dissolved - Peter McOnie joined with James Buchanan Mirrlees, forming McOnie and Mirrlees. Either this year or in 1851 William and Andrew McOnie formed W. and A. McOnie.
1850 Mr. Peter M'Onie died; Mr Mirrlees appointed William Tait as manager
1852 Mr Tait became a partner, the title of the firm remaining the same.
1858 When William Tait became a partner in McOnie and Mirrlees, the name of the firm was changed to Mirrlees and Tait.
