1889 Brush Electrical Engineering Co established, later developed into the Brush group of companies.
1954 The Brush Group Ltd would be the new name for the Brush group of companies[1]. The name and new group organisation was implemented with effect from 1 January 1956.
1956 Brush Electrical Engineering Co became a subsidiary of the Brush Group, which was a holding company.
1957 Hawker Siddeley Group took over Brush Group[2].
1971 Brush Switchgear was formed as one of 3 new trading companies as subsidiaries:[3]
1973 Acquired Bowthorpe's power equipment division, with factories at Bridgend and Banbury[4]
1974 Mr D. A. Stack became Production Director.[5]
1991 South Wales Switchgear merged with Brush Switchgear to form Hawker Siddeley Switchgear Ltd (HSSL)
1991 Hawker Siddeley Group (which was focussed on electrical equipment) was subject to a hostile takeover bid of £1.5 billion from BTR Industries, the large engineering conglomerate. The bid was successful so the Brush companies then became part of the BTR organisation.
The most recent change in Brush’s history occurred in November 1996 when the FKI Group of Companies acquired the Hawker Siddeley Electric Power Group from BTR.
