FALKLAND SAMUEL THORNTON was born in Birmingham on 16th February 1840, and on completing his education and taking an M.A. degree at Cambridge he joined the firm of Messrs. James Thornton and Sons, merchants.
He took a very active part in the success of the Birmingham Volunteers, being captain of No. 6 company.
His death took place on 22nd May 1876 in the 36th year of his age, from the results of an accident.
He became an Associate of the Institution in 1864.
