HENRY WILLIAM HOLLIS died at Norbiton, Surrey, on December 3, 1903, at the age of sixty-six years. He played an important part in the development of the Weardale Iron, Steel, and Coal Company at Spennymoor, of which firm he was formerly manager, and it was under his direction that the firm advanced to a position of great influence in the industrial world. On his retirement some years ago he was elected a director of the company.
He was a director of the Cargo Fleet Iron Co., Ltd., and of the Talbot Continuous Steel Process, Ltd.
He was a well-known member of the Iron and Steel Institute, of which he was elected a member in 1880, and he contributed to the Institute's proceedings papers on "The Tudhoe Works of the Weardale Iron and Coal Company, Limited," in 1893, and on "The `Weardale' Furnace" in 1897.
