W. G. Guthrie has an excellent career, he did his apprenticiship at [[Harland and Wolff]] in Belfast and later became the production engineer for [[Buick]] and [[Oldsmobile]]. He left [[General Motors (USA)|General Motors]] and was appointed the manager at [[Peerless]] and remained there until 1927. He was then made the regional production manager of General Motors. In 1930 he worked for [[Opel]] as works manager and special assistant general manager and in 1939 he became the assistant managing director of [[Vauxhall]] Motors.
