Major J. L. Benthall (c1868-1947) was one of the Sheffield directors of Vickers, Ltd.

Educated at Harrow to the age of eighteen

Spent seven years in the shipyard of his grandfather, the head of the firm of J. d'A. Samuda Brothers, of Poplar, the great shipbuilders of the Thames.

1893 Joined Messrs. Vickers

1910 became a director of Vickers, having control and supervision of the armour-plate department.

1926 He retired from Vickers. [1]
