1861 Josiah Evans 40, magistrate, coal proprietor, lived in Haydock with Lydia Evans 39, Alice Evans 10, Kate Evans 7, Josiah Hosfield Evans 2, Emily Haigh Evans 1[3]

1868 Became manager of the Botany Bay pit of the Clifton and Kersley Coal Co

1873 Josiah died at Haydock; his nephews William Pilkington and Edward Pilkington, coal proprietors, were executors[4]
