West country brewer taken over by Whitbread

Starkey, Knight & Ford was a sizeable brewery group, operating throughout Devon and Somerset. Initially trading as Starkey, Knight & Co., from 1887 at Bridgwater, they became Starkey, Knight & Ford in 1895 upon the acquisition of Thomas Ford & Son in Tiverton.

They acquired the Taw Vale Brewery in Barnstaple in 1897.
