1900. Launch Oil Engine

formerly S. Griffin and Co

1868 Founded by Samuel Griffin and involved in making steam engines

1880 Entered the i/c engine field with six-stroke models that were built by Dick, Kerr and Co

1892 Producing engines at their works. At the expiry of the Otto patent on four-stroke engines they commenced building these.

1898 A Griffin Duplex vertical gas engine engine with sizes up to 500 bhp

1899 Description drawings and photos of Griffin oil engine for launches, having two cylinders and one connecting rod

1898 Two Duplex gas engines supplied to C. Bayer and Co's new warehouse in Golden Lane, London, for driving electric lighting generators

1904 Building oil engines. Duplex two-cylinder model in sizes from 6 to 60 hp. Quadruplex four-cylinder model in sizes from 30 to 200 hp.

1909 Introduced a suction gas engine

1910 Introduced a new range of oil engines.

1910 Four-cylinder oil engine and its starting engine described and illustrated in 'Engineering' magazine . Driving a Tilghman's air compressor, the unit being built to the order of the Great Indian Peninsula Railway.

Notes

Two of the six-stroke engines are known to survive. One at the Anson Engine Museum and the other at Museum of Bath at Work
