Arthur White (c1835-1895) of W. White and Sons, White Brothers and Cowes Gas Co
1881 Residing at Gorse Cottage, Victoria Road, Northwood, Hants: Arthur White (age 46 born West Cowes), Marine Engineer employing 85 men (and a widower). With children Gertrude (age 16), Harold (age 10), Wellesley (age 7), Ida (age 5) and William (age 1).[1]
1895 Died. 'Mr. Arthur White, of Bloomsgrove, Woolston, whose sudden death at Portsdown Hill was recorded in our impression of yesterday, was until recently the senior partner of the firm of W. White and Sons, Vectis Works, Cowes, and Director of the Cowes Gas Company. He went to Woolston a short time since, and although not taking any active part in the management of the firm’s affairs, assisted very materially in the establishment of a yacht-building business at Itchen Ferry, where his presence will be greatly missed by the workmen of Messrs. White Bros.’ Yard, and the yacht captains about the place. The remains of deceased were to-day removed to Cowes for interment in the family vault at North-wood Cemetery.[2]
