ARTHUR CHAPMAN was born at Bury St. Edmunds on 2nd September 1860. | |||
He was educated at Ipswich, and served a pupilage of 4 1/2 years at the Atlas Engineering Works, Birmingham, after which he was engaged in the drawing office of [[Thomas Piggott and Co|Messrs. Thomas Piggott and Co.]] of the some city. | |||

ARTHUR CHAPMAN was born at Bury St. Edmunds on 2nd September 1860.
He was educated at Ipswich, and served a pupilage of 4 1/2 years at the Atlas Engineering Works, Birmingham, after which he was engaged in the drawing office of Messrs. Thomas Piggott and Co. of the some city.
From there he went to Messrs. Ruston Proctor and Co., with whom he remained for some years, until they offered him the post of their Indian representative.
He then became assistant engineer on the Agra Water Works, and upon their completion he took a similar post on the Calcutta Docks.
