1835 Owing to the illness of Mr. Arundel, the partnership of Arundel and Mappin was dissolved. Mr Joseph Mappin (1793-1841) continued the business, bringing in his eldest son, Frederick Thorpe Mappin despite his young age.
1841 Joseph Mappin died; Frederick, at the age of twenty, had to take on the the entire management of the business. Shortly afterwards he was joined by his younger brothers, and the firm soon established a reputation for their products.
1843 the name of the firm was changed to Mappin Brothers, who continued with increasing success until 1859, when Frederick left.
