JOHN PRICE was born in 1852.
His early training was received at Messrs. Bolckow Vaughan's Works at Middlesbrough, and he then became foreman rail-finisher at the works of the West Cumberland Iron and Steel Co. for about nine years.
After having worked for a short time at the Moss Bay Works of the United Steel Co., he started on his own account as a steel-rail inspector, ultimately obtaining a foremost position in the industry.
For many years he was resident in Workington, where for a time he served on the Town Council, and he also made frequent professional visits to America and the Continent.
His death took place at his residence in London on 5th April 1919, at the age of sixty-seven.
He became a Member of this institution in 1890, and he was also a Member of the Iron and Steel Institute.
