ANDREW FORSTER was born on 21st December 1867, at Jarrow, and received his education at the Rutherford College, Newcastle-on-Tyne, this being supplemented during subsequent years by attendance at the technical classes at that College.
He served his apprenticeship in the erecting shops of Messrs. Palmers Shipbuilding and Iron Co., Ltd., Jarrow-on-Tyne, and after the completion of his term in 1887 he served two years as draughtsman with Messrs. Robert Stephenson and Co., of Newcastle-on-Tyne, followed by nearly five years in a similar position with Messrs. Palmer and Co.
