William Pickersgill (1861-1928).
Born in Nantwich (or possibly Crewe) and died in Bournemouth,
1876 Great Eastern Railway at Stratford as a Whitworth Exhibitioner.
1891. Appointed district locomotive superintendent in Norwich.
1894 Succeeded James Johnson as the Locomotive Superintendent of the Great North of Scotland Railway
1912. He was Chairman of the Association of Railway Locomotive Engineers
1914-1923 he was Chief Mechanical Engineer of the Caledonian Railway.
He was appointed locomotive superintendent of the Northern Division of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway. [1]

WILLIAM PICKERSGILL, C.B.E., who was for many years locomotive, carriage and wagon superintendent of the Caledonian Railway, was born at Crewe in 1861, but served his apprenticeship in the Great Eastern Railway locomotive works at Stratford.
He subsequently became locomotive and technical inspector and district locomotive superintendent on the Great Eastern Railway; locomotive, carriage, and wagon superintendent of the Great North of Scotland Railway in 1894, and of the Caledonian Railway in 1914.
Upon the grouping of railways in 1923 Mr. Pickersgill was appointed to be Mechanical Engineer of the Northern Division of the London Midland and Scottish Railway with headquarters at St. Rollox works. This position he held until his retirement in 1925.
He became a Member of the Institution in 1923.
His death occurred on 2nd May 1928.
