William Stagg (1850-1928) of the Bristol Gas Co

WILLIAM STAGG joined the Bristol Gas Company as a draughtsman in 1878 and was associated with the same company until his retirement in 1920.
He was born in Bristol in 1850 and apprenticed at the Avonside Locomotive Works in 1868.
In 1893 he was appointed manager of the gas company's Canon's Marsh Works and in 1899 he was transferred to the Avon Street Works, where he remained until his retirement.
He was the inventor of the "Fiddes Stagg Patent Service Cleaner" used by the Bristol Gas Company and many similar concerns.
He was well known locally as a watercolour artist and an archaeologist and antiquary.
He died on 9th August 1928.
Mr. Stagg became a Member of the Institution in 1897.
