EDMUND GEORGE NICHOLLS, who was born at Swansea in 1882, received his early training under Mr. J. Butler at the works of the Swansea Hematite Iron Company. Subsequently, he studied at the Swansea Technical College and in 1904 gained a Whitworth Exhibition.
He joined the staff of Messrs. Siemens at Stafford in 1905, and was engaged in the development of electrical switch-gear at their works for over twenty years, taking out several patents in this connexion.
Unfitted for military service during the War, he accepted an appointment with Messrs. Kynochs at Birmingham, but had to resign owing to ill-health. Throughout his career he was keenly interested in technical education and devoted a large portion of his leisure to its promotion.
Latterly, be assisted in the design and construction of the new factory at Wolverhampton for the Goodyear Tyre Company.
He was 47 years of age at the time of his death, which occurred on 13th December 1929. He became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1921.
