The castle, now a museum, is the former home of the Crawshay family.
It houses an excellent display of items relating to local social history and local industries in general, and to Cyfarthfa Ironworks specifically. There is also a fine collection of the Crawshay's family's paintings, drawings, sculptures, porcelain, and artefacts from ancient Egypt and Rome. The porcelain collection contains many items from the Nantgarw Pottery.
