1889 'Death of a ell-known Middlesbrough Engineer. — The painfully-sudden death is announced of Mr James George Beckton, C.E., late of Whitby, at his residence in St. Paul's- road, Middlesbrough, last evening. The deceased gentleman was well-known in the North of England, and more particularly in the Cleveland district. He was an able engineer, and during his lifetime designed and superintended the erection of various iron and other works at Thornaby, Jarrow, Acklam, Grosmont, Stockton, Glaisdale , and Middlesbrougb, his practice extending over a period of 30 years. The deceased gentleman served his time at Messrs Cochrane's Woodside Ironworks, Dudley, Worcesterabire. Of late years he has been unable to follow his professional duties owing to ill-healtb. He was in his usual health on Wednesday night, and retired to bed, but on Thursday morning he took very ill, and died shortly after three o'clock yesterday evening from an affection of the heart.
