JOSEPH RICHARD CARDEN KEARNS was chairman and managing director of Messrs. H. W. Kearns and Company, machine tool manufacturers, of Broadheath, Manchester.
He was born at Baxenden, near Accrington, in 1879, and received his education at Dulwich College from 1890 to 1896, when he commenced an apprenticeship with Messrs. William Muir and Company, Manchester.
From 1899 to 1901 he continued his studies at Christ's College, Cambridge, and later joined Messrs. H. W. Kearns and Company, for whom he was appointed managing director in 1907. He subsequently held the position of chairman of the company in addition.
Mr. Kearns was elected to Membership of the Institution in 1929.
He died on 19th July 1933.
