RONALD FOWLER was for nearly thirty years attached to the staff of the Devonshire Works of the Staveley Coal and Iron Company, Ltd. He joined the firm as assistant engineer in 1906, when the works were built, and worked there in that capacity till 1918, when he left with the intention of joining the Army; the War, however, terminated before he could do this.
He rejoined the firm in 1920 as engineer, and held that appointment for the rest of his life. He was responsible for the installation of new boilers and turbines and of no less than fifty coke ovens and the associated benzol recovery plant.
