WILLIAM WOODS was sales organizing engineer to Messrs. Wearn's Autoflex Drives, Ltd.
He was the son of William Woods Bey, of the Egyptian State Railways, and was born in Cairo in 1895 and came to England in 1909 to finish his education.
In 1912 he entered the Bedford works of Messrs. W. H. Allen, Sons and Company, Ltd., as an apprentice, and served until 1917, when he was placed in charge of the production of marine engines for minesweepers.
Shortly afterwards he enlisted as a fighting scout pilot and served with the R.N.A.S. and R.A.F.
In 1919 he joined the Hoffmann Manufacturing Company, Ltd., Chelmsford, as progress superintendent, and successfully introduced the system of monthly production schedules, based on time studies.
