Herbert Langley Towns was born in 1889 and received his technical education concurrently with his apprenticeship at the Elswick Works of [[Armstrong Whitworth|Armstrong, Whitworth and Co., Ltd]].
He then entered the Drawing Office of the [[Daimler|Daimler Co., Ltd.]], at Coventry, where he was subsequently promoted to Senior Draughtsman.
Following this he occupied similar positions respectively with [[Clayton and Co|Clayton and Co. (Hudd.), Ltd.]], and [[Angus Sanderson and Co|Sir Wm. Angus Sanderson and Co., Ltd.]], and in 1922 joined the design staff of [[Armstrong Siddeley Motors|Armstrong-Siddeley Motors, Ltd.]], with whom he remained until his death, latterly as Chief Draughtsman of the Aero Engine Dept.
He died on 11th June, 1938, at the age of 48.


He was elected a Graduate in 1913 and was transferred to Associate Member in 1919.

Herbert Langley Towns (1889-1938)

Herbert Langley Towns was born in 1889 and received his technical education concurrently with his apprenticeship at the Elswick Works of Armstrong, Whitworth and Co., Ltd.

He then entered the Drawing Office of the Daimler Co., Ltd., at Coventry, where he was subsequently promoted to Senior Draughtsman.

Following this he occupied similar positions respectively with Clayton and Co. (Hudd.), Ltd., and Sir Wm. Angus Sanderson and Co., Ltd., and in 1922 joined the design staff of Armstrong-Siddeley Motors, Ltd., with whom he remained until his death, latterly as Chief Draughtsman of the Aero Engine Dept.
