LEWIS JOHN CALCATERRA was for many years surveyor to Lloyd's Register of Shipping, for Malta. He was born in Italy in 1884 and received his training from 1899 to 1903 with the Malta Railway, the Mersey and East Coast Engineering Works (Malta Branch), and H.M. Dockyard.

Mr. Calcaterra was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1926, and was also a Member of the Institution of Naval Architects. His death occurred at Sliema, Malta, on 3rd February 1938.
