1951 Obituary [1]

"HEW MCINNES GRIERSON was identified with the papermaking industry for almost the whole of his professional career.

He received his education at the Heriot-Watt College, Edinburgh, and served his apprenticeship in the same city with Messrs. James Milne and Sons, Ltd., papermakers, from 1902 to 1908. Subsequently he joined the West End Engine Works Company, Ltd., also of Edinburgh, as a junior in the drawing office and rose to be leading draughtsman, with responsibility for the design of auxiliary machinery for the paper trade.

During the 1914-18 war he served in the armament section of the Royal Ordnance Corps and after resuming his duties with the West End Engine Works Co for a brief period, took up an appointment as chief assistant engineer to Messrs. Tullis, Russell and Company, Ltd., Markinch, Fife, papermakers.

In 1928 he was appointed engineer-in-charge of Messrs. Wiggin, Teape and Company's Buckland Paper Mills, Dover, in which capacity he was responsible for the design and installation of much new plant. From 1941 to 1945 he was attached to the staff of the inspector of armaments, after which he returned to his former position at the Buckland Paper Mills, where he remained up to the time of his death, which occurred in February 1951 at the age of sixty-three. Mr. Grierson had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1933."
