HENRY COLEMAN HEAD served his apprenticeship from 1890 to 1892 with the chief engineer of the [[South Metropolitan Gas Co|South Metropolitan Gas Company]], and remained on the engineering staff of that company for a further period of five years. From 1897 to 1904, he was assistant engineer to the [[Bournemouth Gas and Water Co|Bournemouth Gas and Water Company]]. He then went to the [[Winchester Water and Gas Co|Winchester Water and Gas Company]] where he held the appointment of general manager until 1929, in which year he became managing director. He successfully guided the company through a time of transition and difficulty and was responsible for the removal of the gas works from Staple Garden to the present site at Winnall.


 
Latterly Mr. Head practised as a consulting engineer, and was responsible for several water supply schemes in the south of England. Mr. Head, whose death occurred on 13th February 1941 in his sixty-ninth year was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1904, and was transferred to Membership in 1914. He was also a Member of the [[Institution of Civil Engineers]]. He took an active interest in the formation of the British Road Tar Association, of which he was the first chairman and later vice-president. He was also a past-president of the [[Institution of Water Engineers]].

HENRY COLEMAN HEAD served his apprenticeship from 1890 to 1892 with the chief engineer of the South Metropolitan Gas Company, and remained on the engineering staff of that company for a further period of five years.
