"TOM SPENCER BLAND was connected with the firm of Messrs. Yates and Thom, Ltd., of Blackburn, engine builders, for thirty-nine years. He began to serve his apprenticeship in 1892, and, after passing through all the departments, was subsequently appointed a director and placed in charge of the estimating department. In the course of his service with the firm he paid three visits to India as technical representative. After severing his connection with Messrs.
