"WALTER HEREWARD HILL spent almost the whole of his professional career in Java and the Far East. He was born in 1879, and served his apprenticeship from 1895 to 1900 with [[H. J. West and Co|Messrs. "WALTER HEREWARD HILL spent almost the whole of his professional career in Java and the Far East. He was born in 1879, and served his apprenticeship from 1895 to 1900 with Messrs. H. J. West and Company, Ltd., London. After a brief experience as draughtsman to Messrs. G. J. Worssam and Sons, general engineers, he went to Siam to take up a similar position with Messrs.
